Nothing Is Real
Running time 3:52
Appears on Tomorrow's Harvest

Comments

  • Joe Clay: "Hey, it's "Roygbiv" Part II. Well, a sharper, less gauzy take on the MHTRTC classic. Like everything on Tomorrow's Harvest, it is not as accessible or friendly as their previous work, but it is definitely from the same gene-pool." [1]

Samples / Lyrics

  • At about 1:54 in the track a distorted voice begins to speak. Many heard the first line as "Jesus was a human being" [2]

Upon careful analysis, an interpretation of the full lyrics is

"Jesus, was it you indeed"

"to flirt unkindly with my greed"

"promising eternal life"

"when you knew it was not right"

"when you knew that what I'd need was oneness and comfort there"

[3] [4] [5]

I hear the last part differently, after listening to this link from a guy who isolated the track.... http://sequoia.ax.lt/nothing-is-real.mp3

"When you knew that what I'd want was abundance and the comfort there.

Perhaps the poem is questioning the desire for eternal life, It may in a sense be greedy to want to live eternally with the abundance and comfort that is the promise of heaven. Willingness may not produce comfort but abundance does so it makes more sense and it sounds to me more like abundance than willingness. Could be taken as a conversation with Jesus admitting that Jesus knew he was not right to have that kind of greed for eternal abundance and comfort. The writer may look at the greedy desire to live forever as unavoidable and points out the conundrum. Another observation, when you hear the opening in this isolated version it's clear that the first part is a question and answer, "Jesus, was it you?" "Indeed." different voice
