* At approximately 2:10, a back-masked voice is heard saying "a god with horns" twice to the sound of a crackling fire and a distant church bell. This is sampled from the BBC Channel 4 series Desperately Seeking Something (Series 2 Episode 1) about the Wiccan religion, which is also sampled numerous times in "Dawn Chorus". The episode quotes a poem called The Pipes of Pan, written by Viavianne Crowley in her book Wicca: The Old Religion In the New Age:
***<blockquote>The Pipes of Pan<br>In caverns deep the old Gods sleep<br>But the trees still know the lord<br>And it's the pipes of pan, which call the tune<br>In the twilight in the wood<br>The leaves they dance to the goat god's tune<br>And they whisper his name to the winds<br>And the oak trees dreams of a god with horns<br>And know no other king.</blockquote>
* Slowed flute from "When the Music Starts to Play" by The Incredible String Band.
* 4:08 - looped voice saying "take my hand", "to land", or "too late"
**On the 2002 website, "take my hand" appears in the scene "seven forty seven". If you fly up to a suitable "pillar" you'll hear it a bit more clearly on its own.
* [sandrail] suggests there may be a voice saying "come help me" during the backmasked speech.

Cultural References
Many other works, in music as well as other media, feature the Horned God. Some notable examples are:
*The music of Coil.
*The Sláine series of comics/graphic novels.
**Slaine originally came to prominence in the comic 2000AD.
**The most notable nods to Wicca are in the eponymous Horned God cycle.

Comments
* [BIBIO] has made very perceptive observations on this track, and some others:
** On colours: [BIBIO] notes that the "yellow" in Alpha And Omega seems to repeat continuously at a lower volume; that Music Is Math has a faint voice which could be saying "purple", and that playing the end section at half-speed results in what sounds like "red" being repeated. With the "orange" in Aquarius, they might be trying to cover the range of rainbow colours.
** Repeated allusions to flying (in this and other albums): an aeroplane drone in an eagle in your mind; corsair as a type of plane; comments about going to high altitudes for inspiration; Kid For Today possibly containing a looped aeroplane drone throughout the track; an interview picture of BoC in an airfield with planes ("the secret life of Boards of Canada photo). Also the interactive scenes on the BoC website: the introductory scene is of aeroplane contrails, and many of the other interactive scenes are flight simulators. Chinook is a kind of helicopter, among other things.
* [Leo B] pointed out that the second occurrence of the phrase is at 2:16 in the track. 216 = 6×6×6. Given all the other references of this kind (such as the album length of 66'06" (666), it is at least plausible that this is no coincidence). However, see below on whether the time IS 66'06".
* From the Spanish language Mondosonoro interview (see the links page), which BoC say that they were really pleased with the beat in this track, which sounds like a taut tope being pulled across the hull of a wooden ship.
* [Wikao] notes the sound heard immediately as the track begins may be that of cork being harvested.
* Aside from the bird-song variety that all are familiar with, there is an electromagnetic phenomenon of the same name, which occurs when the sun breaks over the horizon during a period of sunspot activity or of solar flares. At such times, those with the proper equipment can hear sounds that have been described as being like whistling, or like hundreds of birds singing at once; some have even reported hearing human voices. * [J] pointed out something interesting: BoC have remixed Meat Beat Manifesto, and the MBM album "Actual Sounds and Voices" contains a very Geogaddi-sounding track called "The Tweek" (track 6). He pointed out that the beginning of the track sounds rather like the beginning of A:B::B:C, and that "a little way through the track, a conversation starts. The two men are discussing radio disturbances/anomalies", and that these are illustrated with pertinent audio samples. "At the end, there is a pause and they begin to play an extended sample of a dawn chorus" that sounds rather like chirping tree-frogs in the summer. One of the men then comments: "The dawn chorus on the other hand is not at all well understood, and there is no theory to explain it." (Actual dawn chorus samples can be heard by following the Wikipedia link given above.)
"It's a mixture of live performance and step sequencing. Sometimes, we make up sounds and then program them tightly in a really synthetic way. For instance, "Dawn Chorus" is a single-take jammed beat that I played, while "1969" has a live beat all the way through mixed with other beat tracks."
As part of the normal buzz of media activity surrounding each album release, a number of interviews have been published in various Japanese music magazines. = Japanese interviews =
As part of the normal buzz of media activity surrounding each album release, a number of interviews have been published in various Japanese music magazines. Unfortunately, as there is no one in the English BoC fan community who lives in Japan or even speaks Japanese, these articles are very hard to track down.

<blockquote>2006年 07月 01日
不朽の傑作

Boards of canada

</blockquote>
A mysterious Boards of Canada record was found at Other Music records in New York City. The cover reads simply as follows:

<blockquote>
BOARDS OF CANADA<br/>

The bottom of the cover bears a copyright notice dated "2013 WARP RECORDS LIMITED".

When played, the record contains approximately 40 seconds of audio, consisting primarily of a short set of chimes followed by a computer voice reciting six numbers, similar to a shortwave numbers station (such as the one sampled on "Gyroscope"). The numbers recited are 9 3 6 5 5 7.

According to a store employee, the record was hand-delivered by a Warp Records representative and is one of only 6 in the world. The rest are said to be all located outside the United States.
The cover symbols, recited numbers and reported number of records suggest a 36-digit code, to be discovered when all 6 releases are found. Assuming the Xs indicate where the numbers on each release go, the partial code is as follows:

<blockquote>------ / ------ / ------ / 936557 / ------ / ------</blockquote>
The bottom of the cover bears a copyright notice dated "2013 WARP RECORDS LIMITED".

When played, the record contains approximately 40 seconds of audio, consisting primarily of a short set of chimes followed by a computer voice reciting six numbers, similar to a shortwave numbers station (such as the one sampled on "Gyroscope"). The numbers recited are 9 3 6 5 5 7.
A mysterious Boards of Canada record was found at Other Music records in New York City. The cover reads simply as follows:

<blockquote>
BOARDS OF CANADA<br/>
------ / ------ / ------ / XXXXXX / ------ / ------
</blockquote>

Abeautifulplace was originally started as a fan page by Twoism member joshkowski. He developed the page and attracted over 35,000 followers in less than a year. In August 2006, he was contacted by representatives from Warp and transitioned it to their control. In appreciation of his efforts, Warp sent him a collection of new releases and a t-shirt.
