== Original John Peel Broadcast ("Bad Day") ==
This version (sometimes referred to as "Bad Day") was recorded live for [[Boards of Canada]]'s [[wikipedia:List_of_Peel_Sessions|Peel Session]] on July 21st 1998. It differs from the studio version in a number of ways including a different outro, and has a generally rougher sound compared to the studio version. It also lacks the backmasked [[wikipedia:Jeff Lynne|Jeff Lynne]] interview sample present in the studio version. When [[Boards of Canada]] released the ''[[Peel Session]]'' EP in 1999, the original broadcast version of [[Happy Cycling]] was replaced by the studio version, allegedly due to [[Boards of Canada]] being dissatisfied with their performance of the track, hence the nickname "Bad Day". Although it has never been officially released it is widely available online.

[[Boards of Canada]] performed [[Happy Cycling]] live during [[Live @ Warp10|their performance at Warp's 10th anniversary party]] on November 5th 1999. In early April 2026, multiple fans received unmarked VHS tapes through the mail, with sender addresses related to [[Warp Records|Warp]] and their online storefront [[Bleep.com|Bleep]]. About a week after, posters with imagery reminiscent of the band started appearing in multiple places around the UK and US. == Title and Themes ==

As a word, ''Inferno'' references hell and places reminiscent of it. It is the most explicit reference to religion and the occult since their 2002 album ''[[Geogaddi]]'' and 2000 EP ''[[In a Beautiful Place out in the Country (release)|In a Beautiful Place out in the Country]]''. The album's titles also heavily refer to concepts in cosmology and physics.

* An "[[Introit]]" is a song or psalm that is sung or recited at the beginning of a Christian mass.
* "[[Father And Son]]" could reference the Holy Trinity, which consists of the two and The Holy Spirit.
* "[[The Word Becomes Flesh]]" is a quotation from [https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John%201:14&version=NIV verse 1:14] of the Gospel of John.
* "[[Naraka]]" references the realm of hell seen in Indian religions, such as Hinduism and Buddhism.
