* [Nick Edwards] mentioned that he had read a sci-fi novel of that name1 as a child: brief description of book. We can't, of course, say for sure that the title refers to this, but it does look, from the review, like just the kind of thing they *would* refer to, with its theme of small mysterious crystals falling from the sky.
Trans Canada Highway is an EP by Boards of Canada. As described by Boards of Canada and Warp Records, the EP "visits a darker place, a glacial place, away from the warmth and light of The Campfire Headphase." Those who ordered the EP directly from Warp also received a sticker and a free copy of the Dayvan Cowboy music video.

Originally scheduled for release on 06/06/06 (perhaps to further their occult mythos), the release date was bumped up to 29 May 2006 (a day later in the US), due to what was described on the Warp website as "unanticipated satanic activity." The nature of this activity, whether it was directly related to Boards of Canada or not, has never been explained.

The EP garnered relatively lukewarm reception by critics and by many in the idm community, the latter of whom were suspicious about the commercial ambitions suggested by the re-release of "Dayvan Cowboy" as a single. Nevertheless, tracks such as "Left Side Drive" remain classics with the general Boards of Canada fanbase.

The ep was released on both CD and 12" formats. The latter was pressed on white vinyl.

In addition to the standard release, there is also a white label promo/test pressing on black vinyl which is identical in content to the official Trans Canada release. The CD version of the promo/test, however, is limited exclusively to the tracks "Dayvan Cowboy" and "Skyliner". The Japanese version of the ep (in cd format) on Beat Records additionally includes a 'Bonus Video' called "Invocation". This short .mpg file was also available in Flash fomat on the Trans Canada Highway microsite.
The Smallest Weird Number is track number 9 on the Geogaddi album. An excerpt of the track appears in the video portion of the Trans Canada Highway Microsite.

Title
In mathematics, the smallest weird number is 70. 70 is part of the name1 of the band's private label (music70); sixtyten is another way of saying 70.
*At 0:03, the ending of "When the Music Starts to Play" by The Incredible String Band is heard in reverse and at a lower speed. The sample seems to have been taken from an old phonograph record, as crackling is present.
*Track 10 from side B of Old Tunes Vol. 1 appears in reverse at 0:11. Reverb has been applied to the last chord heard in the present track.

Comments
* The Smallest Weird Number is 70. As in Music70, BoC's own label. A "weird number" is a number that is "abundant" but not "semi-perfect". Meaning? Take all the "proper divisors" of 70 (i.e. all the divisors of 70 except for 70 itself). They are 1, 2, 5, 7, 10, 14, 35. When the proper divisors add up to more than the original number, the original number is said to be abundant. For 70: 1+2+5+7+10+14+35 = 74 > 70, so 70 is "abundant". Now, if there was some SUBSET of these numbers 1, 2, 5, 7, 10, 14, 35 which added up to 70, then 70 would be said to be "semi-perfect" (or "psuedo-perfect") But there isn't. Try it. You can make 71 by missing out the 1 and the 2, or you can make 69 by missing out the 5, but you can't make 70. I hope that explanation is clear. The first few weird numbers are: 70, 836, 4030, 5830, 7192, 7912, 9272, 10430, 10570, 10792. You can find a longer list of weird numbers in the "online encyclopedia of integer sequences", from which my shorter listing was taken. This explanation of weird numbers by [DC].
"I have a story to tell. Once there was a boy who had a large dog; the dog was called Xentrix.
One day the boy was walking in the woods with Xentrix; he stumbled on a wooden door.
Xentrix opened the door, and the boy followed him inside.
What the boy saw amazed him: there was a cave one mile long, and inside the cave were
one million other children and a million dogs.
The boy could not hold back his tears when he heard Xentrix say,
Welcome my friend. These are my people; now they are your people too."
