  Boards of Canada gehören seit jeher zur ersten Garde der Electronica-Szene und zu den Eckpfeilern des Kultlabels Warp. Auch auf dem neuen Album wartet die Band mit dem Hauptanliegen auf, verblasste Erinnerungen voller romantischer Höhepunkte in musikalische Schwingungen zu übersetzen.
Durch „The Campfire Headphase", die neue Boards-of-Canada-Platte, weht im Gegensatz zum düster vernebelten Surrealismus des Vorgängers„Geogaddi", der illuminierende Wind der Aufklärung. Die Tracks sind strukturell glasklar, verfrickelte Beats größtenteils Geschichte. Es gibt kaum Anklänge an die DSP-Exzesse der elektronischen Musik der letzten Jahre. Die Beats rumpeln präzise abgezirkelt vor sich hin. Darüber schweben die typischen Bords-of-Canada-Flächen, wie Pastellfar
ben, die langsam ineinanderlaufen, sich vermischen und vorsichtig gerinnen. Vielleicht ist„Campfire Headphase" die Abendröte der Electronica. Zeitlos schön und gerade deshalb so zeitgemäß. Fast wie ein klassisches Lehrstück, eine Essenz. Und für die Macher Mike Sandison und Marcus Eoin die logische Konsequenz ihrer bisherigen Arbeit. Natürlich ist auch das neue Album durchsetzt mit Anspielungen, Konzepten, Rätseln. Das Bild, dass sich aus der Musik herauslesen lässt, rückt eine andere Seite
ins Licht: Den Producern ging es niemals allein darum, in opake, mystische Welten herabzuführen, sondern eher darum, das Seltsame, schwer verstehbare der Welt in Musik umzusetzen. Rätsel aufzugeben, die danach verlangen enträtselt zu werden. Eine epische Inszenierung fundamentaler Konflikte auszubreiten: Magie versus Logik, Spiritualität versus Vernunft. Das scheue schottische Producer-Gespann stand Rede und Antwort zum neuen Album.
