β | __TOC__
| + | In a Beautiful Place Out in the Country was an EP manufactured by Boards of Canada. It's release, 17 November 2000, was in between Music Has the Right to Children and Geogaddi, respectively. Encompassing four tracks, this album dabbles further into the love of the great outdoors shared by the brothers and the Branch Davidians, a sect often featured in Michael and Marcus' work. Indeed, one song is actually named after a follower of David Koresh. This would be track number two, Amo Bishop Roden. Packaged in an outer sleeve with an art-bearing inner sleeve, the vinyl edition was pressed with a sky-blue color rather than the cliche Carbon Black. This is a fitting color for the nature of their work. |

β | In a Beautiful Place out in the Country is an EP by Boards of Canada. Encompassing four tracks culled from the same recording sessions from which Boards of Canada would later produce Geogaddi (OOR Inteview, 2002), the EP tends to favor a darker, more pastoral, and even elegiac atmosphere than its predecessor Music Has the Right to Children. | |

β | Although musically the EP is no great stylistic departure for the group, In a Beautiful Place out in the Country does represent a significant change in tone and subject matter. Of particular note are the references in the music and album art reflecting an interest by the brothers in the history of David Koreshβs millennialist sect, the Branch Davidians. The picture found directly beneath the disc on the CD release of the EP, for example, is thought by some to have been cropped from a picture of David Koresh.
| |
β | | |
β | The most overt of these references is found in the track title Amo Bishop Roden, the real name of a woman who parted ways with Koresh before the 1993 Waco Siege. A less obvious reference to the Davidians is also found in the title trackβs mantra βcome out and live in a religious community in a beautiful place out in the country,β alleged to be a slogan used by Roden to proselytize for the Davidian sect.
| |
β | | |
β | References to the Davidian sect would continue to spill over into other Boards of Canada releases, notably on Geogaddiβs 1969, as well as their remix of Slag Boom Van Loonβs Poppy Seed.

β | The EP was released by Warp Records in both CD (WAP144CD) and 12β (WAP144) formats on November 27, 2000. The latter was pressed on sky-blue vinyl.
