"The Process" is the sixteenth track on Boards of Canada's fifth studio album, Inferno.

Comments

• "The Process" most likely refers to The Process Church of the Final Judgment, which was a brief controversial religious group that was established in 1966 and disappeared sometime in the mid-to-late 1970s. The Process was the title of the group's self-titled magazine.
• Additionally, the title could also refer to Process theology, which is a type of theology developed from process philosophy, process theology is a philosophical-theological movement inspired by mathematician Alfred North Whitehead, which claims that God is constantly evolving and deeply connected with the universe, which contradicts traditional theism, which views God, as unchanging and all powerful.

Samples / Lyrics

• The track contains lyrics that seem to be spoken by a synthetic female voice. From what can be heard, they seem to be nonsensical strings of babble, such as "we noticed the required although they were refreshingly piped and" and "between various Grecian Bishops, it should be vastly seductive."

• An approximation is as follows:^[1]

[?] right at that [?] has shown [?]
It was once every serial, laughter, southeast Dōtonbori
We have [?] fantasy or pre-coronation path
Queried and online there
They lecture though adapted through [?]
World will wonder or the [?] mass deploy dead mirror
There, fifth hope was to burn [?] and all his atrocities
We noticed the required although they were refreshingly piped and
I wager without her road intricately stronger
Sloppily alight, whatever do they tilt often?
Between various Grecian Bishops
It should be vastly seductive from their aeromatic rider
And defined lest she has comprehensively induced him
Acoustically, this plus unquestionably that discriminating better redeemer
They have the magical discharge
The rusting have directed it down our palatability
With lease uncalled shot shelf
He must be profoundly rippled underneath his intelligently [?]

• At 0:12, the track contains a sample of the Russian shortwave radio station UVB-76, recorded on February 21st, 2006.^[2] Known more widely as "The Buzzer", its broadcast consists of a repeating buzzing sound, which reserves the frequency. This buzzing is occasionally interrupted by short strings of numbers and text, like the one sampled on the track, which are presumed to be codes intended for military and/or intelligence purposes. This also appears to have been sampled on the VHS tapes mailed to fans prior to the release of Inferno.
• During the piano section of the track, what seems to be birds chirping can be heard, accompanied by garbled voices of children, which BoC has used samples of children’s voices in many other tracks.
