  • The Labyrinth of Crete, housing the Minotaur — half-bull, half-man, child of King Minos's wife Pasiphaë and the Cretan Bull. Seven Athenian youths and seven maidens were sent in as ritual tribute every nine years to be devoured; Theseus ends the sacrificial cycle.
  • The myth reads as an 'archaic religion of sacrifice', the kind that Christianity was understood (by its own theologians) to supersede. Adjacent to the bull-horned imagery and the "god with horns" sample on Geogaddi's "You Could Feel the Sky".
  • The Labyrinth is also a medieval Christian symbol — the cathedral-floor labyrinth of Chartres was walked as a substitute for the pilgrimage to Jerusalem. Sacrificial blood in the labyrinth layers pagan sacrifice on Christian pilgrimage.
