The Color of the Fire is the third track on Boards of Canada's debut album Music Has the Right to Children. It also appears on Old Tunes Vol. 1 under the title I Love U.

Comments[edit]

  • In an interview with Rene Passet, Boards of Canada explained that "The Color of the Fire" was a reference to a friend's psychedelic experience.[1]
  • One of the main melodies is lifted from a section of the song Dutch Flats from this Soper Sound Music Library release.[2]

Samples / Lyrics[edit]

  • The vocal sample in this track was sampled from a Sesame Street vignette in which a child sounds out the phrase "I love you" while attempting to write it out. The end of this sample is also used in the track "Niagara" from the BoC Maxima tape.

Trivia[edit]

  • Segments of the track were used to promote the Nissan Primera "Statistics" advert directed by Chris Cunningham.
  • The Aquarius single contains a coloring sheet. There are four different colors; one of these is "the color of The Fire." The coloring sheet instructs the user to color this in two separate locations: the faces of everyone, and a hexagon superimposed on the sun. Next to the hexagon is text which says "Turquoise Hexagon Sun which, if to be taken literally, implies that the color of The Fire is probably turquoise.
