"Age Of Capricorn" is the fourth track on Boards of Canada's fifth studio album, Inferno.

Comments

• The "age of Capricorn", to followers of astrology, is an upcoming astrological age that will follow the current "age of Aquarius" and begin around the year 4000 AD.^[1] Astrologists theorise that humans, by this time, will be "born clairvoyant" and that the concept of death will disappear as humans "will be in constant contact with the worlds beyond."^[2]

• The mentions of "Mabus" likely refer to the writings of famed astrologer and seer Nostradamus. Followers of Nostradamus claim that the name "Mabus" refers to the Antichrist^[3], and several attempts have been made to link this name with well-known figures, from Barack Obama to Osama Bin Laden. The sample of a man rearranging the letters of "Usama" to "M a a u s" then to "Mabus" is almost certainly a reference to this.^[4]
• “Age Of Capricorn” transitions seamlessly into the next track “Father And Son”, it is one of only four tracks on Inferno to do so, the other three being “Introit” into “Prophecy At 1420 MHz”, “Acts Of Magic” into “Memory Death”, and “Deep Time” into “All Reason Departs”.

Mabus, Mabus

• A possible source for the “Mabus” sample may be a 2004 Art Bell episode featuring John Hogue, specifically two sections, one being about a 27-year war tied to the Antichrist, and another about possible Mabus candidates, which hogue ranks Bin Laden in the top three, hogue spells “M-A-B-U-S” and “M-Double A-U-S” at 1:29:58 and 1:31:33, although hogue doesn’t spell “U-S-A-M-A” or “U-Uh” in the episode, the spelling can be made through Audio Stitching using audio from other moments to make similar spellings.
• From 1:25 onwards, call and response choral singing, sampled from Door of My Heart (A Chant by Paramhansa Yogananda)
