"Introit" is the first track on Boards of Canada's fifth studio album, Inferno. It functions as a short introduction track, in the same vein as on their previous albums. "Introit" was released on May 7th, 2026, alongside "Prophecy At 1420 MHz", as the album's lead single.

Comments[edit]

  • An introit is a "piece of music sung or played at the beginning of a worship service".[1] In many Christian denominations, an introit is sung to begin the Eucharist, or Holy Communion.[2]
  • In the rite of the Catholic Mass, especially as seen in the 1962 pre-Vatican II Missals, the Introit specifically refers to the beginning of The Liturgy of the Eucharist. This could tie directly into another track on the album "The Word Becomes Flesh" whose title comes from John 1:14, a verse that becomes central in the Liturgy of the Eucharist in the Christian denominations (especially Catholicism).
  • The synth that can be heard at 0:21 is very similar to and has the same notes as the flourishing synth that can be heard in "Aquarius", "Warp10-03", and "Alpha And Omega".
