Autechre are an electronic music duo from Rochdale, England, consisting of Rob Brown and Sean Booth. Their first works in the 1990s were influential in establishing the fuzzily defined IDM genre, to which Boards of Canada also belongs. Their later works have been notably more experimental and lengthy, with a focus on live performances and their recordings in the 2020s.

Facts

• Autechre are also signed to Warp Records, along with other notable IDM acts like Boards of Canada and Aphex Twin.
  • They contributed the tracks "Crystel" and "The Egg" to the first Artificial Intelligence compilation, which coined the term "intelligent dance music".
  • A compilation album containing Autechre's and Boards of Canada's Peel Sessions was sold in Japan in 1999.
• The duo was instrumental in the founding of the label SKAM.
  • SKAM's first ever release was Lego Feet's self-titled, an early alias of Autechre.
  • It was on this label that Boards of Canada would release their first widely distributed EP, Hi Scores.
    • As Sean Booth was responsible for getting the duo signed to SKAM, they could be considered instrumental in the success of Boards of Canada.
• Sean Booth provided the recording of a child's voice reading numbers from a numbers station to Boards of Canada for the track "Gyroscope".
• According to Sean Booth, there exists an unreleased cover that Boards of Canada made of the Autechre track "Cichli".

Trivia

• Sean Booth made a humorous remark when asked about BoC's whereabouts during a 5-hour AMA on Twitch:

"I don't know where Boards of Canada are...they're probably in the future somewhere, worrying about why it isn't like the past."

  • This may be referenced in the title of Inferno's sixth track, "Somewhere Right Now In The Future".
