LP5 (actual title not yet known) is the upcoming fifth studio album by Boards of Canada, which will serve as the follow-up to their 2013 album Tomorrow's Harvest. Although there is currently no official title or release date, LP5 was confirmed to be in production in June 2022 by Boards of Canada's online representative, MDG, in a private message to Twoism user babylulu. Subsequent sporadic but consistent activity on Boards of Canada's official social media, including a reference to "future news and announcements"[1], suggests that the intent to release another album is still there.
Confirmation
- MDG, June 2022: "Nothing specific I'm allowed to share yet unfortunately, just that a new album is on its way."
- Bleep, April 2023: "we don't know when the new BoC album is coming"[2]. Note the use of 'when' rather than 'if' implying that the album is confirmed to be in progress.
- BoC's official Instagram, March 2025: Boards of Canada likes 14 comments on an 11 week old Instagram post.[3] The liked comments all revolved around the theme of new music.
Speculation
- There have been many theories concerning potential release dates of LP5, or announcements relating to it. So far most of these dates have passed with no discernible activity from Boards of Canada.
- Many have speculated a 2025 release date to coincide with the 30th anniversary of Boards of Canada's first official release, Twoism. There is some circumstantial evidence to support a 2025 release date, but it is mostly speculative.
