American televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker with her husband Jim Bakker. They were prominent figures in the 1980s, building the religious television empire known as "The PTL Club" (Praise the Lord). The couple's public image and empire collapsed following scandals related to financial fraud and sexual misconduct in 1987. [2]
